Hydroponic Systems Compared: Kratky vs NFT vs DWC

Choosing the right hydroponic system is key to a successful harvest. Here’s a breakdown of the three most popular systems we offer at miHydro.

1. Kratky Method

Best for: Beginners, leafy greens, herbs

How it works: Static reservoir of water; roots absorb nutrients as water level drops

Pros: No electricity, low maintenance

Cons: Not ideal for large or fruiting plants

2. NFT (Nutrient Film Technique)

Best for: Continuous production of lettuce, kale, herbs

How it works: A thin film of nutrient solution constantly flows over roots in a sloped channel

Pros: Efficient, scalable, high yield

Cons: Requires pump and power

3. DWC (Deep Water Culture)

Best for: Fruiting plants (tomatoes, peppers), fast-growing herbs

How it works: Plant roots are suspended in oxygenated nutrient solution

Pros: High oxygen = fast growth, easy to monitor

Cons: Needs an air pump
